It seems something that used to be part of our life a long time ago is making a comeback… repair stuff instead of throwing it away and buying a new one… 🙂

As I have been writing in Dutch earlier on in a comment, this kind of initiatives are coming up more and more… The growing poverty? Crisis?…
But repair-shops and give-away-gatherings where you can offer what you do not need any more or look for something you might need, all for free, seems to become the ‘in’ thing…
Reminds me a bit of my childhood when clothes you grew out of would do the tour of the family till there was no way to alter them any more or they were really very old… 🙂

Wat bijzonder en omdat de serie een bijna voorbije activiteit toont, is het rustige zwart-wit hier zeer passend. Je moet bewondering hebben voor de vaardigheid van die reparateurs, want ik weet uit eigen ervaring hoeveel kennis daarbij komt kijken – ook al gaat het vaak om kleinigheidjes en vroeger had je overal winkeltjes waar je die onderdeeltjes kon kopen.
Moderne micro-elektronica is bijna niet meer te repareren, dus weg gooien is meestal de enige optie.
Eigenlijk is het een meer en meer terug opkomende activiteit door de ‘crisis’ en de verarming – zoals ook de ‘geef-pleinen’ waar je allerlei dingen gewoon neerzet voor wie er iets mee kan doen en/of eventueel zelf iets kunt meenemen dat je kunt gebruiken. Maar zoals je zegt, reparatie en stukken vinden is niet meer zo evident. De kleine, rommelige winkeltjes met dozen en bakjes gebruikte maar nog bruikbare onderdelen en de technieker met fantasie die zo veel dingen terug aan de praat kon krijgen voor weinig geld… het wordt bijna onmogelijk gemaakt. Een artikel is nog maar even op de markt of je vindt er al geen onderdelen meer van… ook geen nieuwe… Maar er is duidelijk behoefte aan te zien aan de opkomst van mensen met hun toestelletjes… Die jongens van de repair-shop hadden wel hun handen vol…

PS: er is een zeer mysterieus apparaat bij met dat ventilatortje en een glazen potje. Heb je enig idee wat dat was?
Geen idee!… Het lijkt iets met een soort waterkoeling… maar wat? Het koelelement van het een of het ander?
Beginning of last week our dishwasher decided to fail – after some tinkering and some web work and more tinkering I ordered a spare part, fitted it and the dishwasher is now a working dishwasher and I’m a happy bunny (and rather pleased with myself!)

I have a microwave combi that after 20 years of work suddenly emitted a lot of smoke and some smells that did not belong to the stuff it was supposed to prepare… still trying to decide if I should open it up or just get a new one… I’m afraid it may have baked itself and all the wires in the process and that would be a bit beyond me… 😉
I think when safety is the issue erring on the side of caution is definitely the way forward.
Of course, the cost of repair needs to be put against the cost of a new one too – unless you have some sentimental value attached to your mwave…..
I agree… Living in a house made of wood and a nice collection of trees around it, fire is a nightmare scenario… 😀 It did give me a fright all right…
